Patricia E. Langan, Director of Programs at the International Youth Foundation’s Employability Center says youth make up 25 percent of the labor force but has 50 percent unemployment.

In the world 186 million people are out of work 88 million of those are between the ages 15 to 24. She says that employment statistics are questionable especially in the developing world and therefore these numbers can be higher. She also mentions underemployment which is when a young person has the skills, potential and education but can’t find jobs where there skills, potential and education are really needed. Many of those young people who are lucky enough to find jobs are underpaid. (1:16)
