Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz reports to Senate Armed Forces Committee five areas of effort that the US should focus on.

Secretary Wolfowitz lists the following 5 areas of efforts to focus on during the next two months. In brief: First, there must be an integration of US, Iraqi, and coalition national powers; second, the US should use its influence in Iraq and help them resolve their issues to preserve national unity; third, the US needs to help Iraq increase the number as well as the capabilities of its security forces; fourth, the US and the Iraqis need to develop an effective legal and judicial system; and fifth, the US needs to work with the Iraqi government to keep pressures on neighboring countries to stop the activities of terrorists and their supporters and to stop the flow of foreign fighters into their country.
