The President’s Schedule

The President had his usual briefings this morning. The President met with the 9/11 Commission at 9:30 am this morning. The President will meet with Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge later on this afternoon.

9/11 Commission

The President, Vice President, the President’s lawyer, Judge Alberto R. Gonzales and two staff members who are White House lawyers have met with the 9/11 Commission. White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan refused to release the names of the staff members who are attending the meeting with the President. McClellan reaffirmed that this meeting with the 9/11 Commission is a private meeting and will remain so. There will not be any transcripts, release of notes or audio of this meeting. The 9/11 Commission may give a statement on the meeting later on. The President met with members of the White House staff including Dr. Rice, Andy Card and Judge Gonzales to prepare for the meeting. He also looked over documents to refresh his memory. The President believes that the 9/11 Commission’s work is very important to helping us win the war on terrorism. McClellan refused to answer a question that was asked about why the President’s lawyer was at the meeting.
